Finally, we are finishing up our procedures and moving on to the final step that we will be doing for our science project... the actual project! We will have 3 weeks to do this step and then, on Wednesday March 18, 2015, we will have the SCIENCE FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the rest of the details are a TOTAL secret so... goodbye until the science fair!
Hello families!
Since I missed last week's, I figured I would just start sending out the emails at the beginning of the week as a preview to what we'll be doing that week. READING: Amy Curtis helped me so much by administering some of our Developmental Reading Assessments. These are the oral reading tests that we set student goals for at conferences. I will be completing the other half of the assessments during reading this week. Additionally, we will be focusing on making inferences in our reading as I've noticed in the homework practice that this is a skill we need work on. SCIENCE: Our goal this week is to write the steps of our science experiments, decide how we will record our observations (example: journal entries, drawing pictures of the changes, taking pictures, taking video, measuring, etc.) and also the materials needed. That way students have a guide to follow when they actually conduct the experiments at home. Students/families will have the first three weeks of February (Feb. 2-20) to conduct the experiments and record observations AT HOME. Homework packets will be modified to allow time for students to do their experiments. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions about the project. The science fair is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 in the MPR from 6-7:30 p.m. More information about judging and criteria for display boards to follow in the next coming weeks. WRITING: We are practicing our How-To procedural writing by creating mini books with instructions about how to get out and return laptops from our Lower School mobile lab. This was in response to some trouble some students have had returning school materials properly. We will be reading our mini books to Kyle's 2/3 class sometime this week after our books are done. SOCIAL STUDIES: Last week we started talking about Martin Luther King Jr. In the next couple weeks we will be studying more about our local hero for Black History Month and creating an informational biographical pamphlet to put in the outside display case. I'd like to do some various readers theaters on some African American heroes so stay tuned for dates on when you can come watch our reader's theater performances! EXTRAS: No school this Friday or next Monday for grading day and planning day. Report cards will be mailed home roughly the second or third week of February. As Black History Month comes closer and closer, our class starts celebrating more and more! We have talked about Martin Luther King Jr. and even watched a video about him. We also made a word web about him and what we already know. We will celebrate Black History Month more and more as it gets closer and closer!
Last week, our class welcomed two new RAD members of our class... (drum roll please :) Edie and Kendall! Edie and Kendall are two AWESOME people who have joined our class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU AND WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As we continue our science projects and keep up the normal class work, we also are currently in the doing:
HAVING FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please come to Trillium Middle School's Open House this Thursday, January 15th, from 6-7 PM! Our Open House will be a place to learn about our program, classes, classrooms, and teachers.
We look forward to seeing you there! Ally, Steve, Carolyn, Chris We have taken the second step in our science fair projects! To make 3 key words and research about them. We are making cute little flip book-like-things that relate to our topic! You will have to see them for yourself at the science fair. SEE YOU THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

T-SHIRT ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!!!!! (Dun, dun, daaaaaaaa!) In art we first looked at logos of many different famous companies. Then, we got the news. We, the 4-5, will be doing a contest for Trillium's school slogan on the t-shirts that we will be designing! To get more information on the art that we did today, talk to your kid! We know every thing! :) It's a new year, and also time for a different thing in writing! We are starting our "how to" unit and began by writing a VERY SPECIFIC how to build a peanut butter and jelly sandwich so that our robot teacher Patricia could make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and do it correctly! She took our instructions quite literally so most of the sandwiches turned out strange (:
